The New Furniture Arrived…

…and ML is like a little kid!

I spent a day or two last week running around San Jose testing the new and improved GSM phone system here in Costa Rica. but my REAL job was to find someone to make new furniture for our patio. Spanish lesson! Actually, patio in Spanish means the yard and the patio is called the terraza. So, to be correct… we wanted new stuff for the terraza!

Nuts… We lost!

Ξ December 20th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Humor, Maria Luisa |

ML wanted to play the lottery… the “Big One” known as the el Gordo Navideño or just el gordo. Gordo is the Spanish word for fat and this lottery with a potential win of ¢350.000.000 (a bit over $700,000.00) is a big deal here. Gordo or more accurately “mi gordito lindo” is also one of the 47 pets names Maria uses daily to describe ME.

Christmas Tree 2005

Ξ December 18th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Food, Humor, Maria Luisa, Whatever |

Maria and I took off for the mountains to buy THE TREE, and brother was she excited! For weeks, she has been saying that THIS year, she wants a smaller tree… smaller being less tall than I (2 meters or about 6’5″). Remembering the appearance of last years tree, I thought she might be on to something, so off we headed to Surqui to do the hunting.

Zepol vs Windex

Ξ December 8th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Humor, Maria Luisa, Whatever |

I think the movie was My Big Fat Greek Wedding… not sure. The bride’s father kept handy a bottle of Windex that he used for just about anything from pimples to plumbing repairs. I suppose he also used it for windows. At various times, he sprayed just about everyone… or threatened to. Duct tape has the same reputation for many people.

Tico Shot in Miami

Ξ December 7th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica |

Ticos (Costa Ricans) are such a peaceful people… fun loving and gentle… and certainly not confrontory (unless they have been hitting the guaro too hard. In fact when ML and I first saw the news yesterday about a Tico being shot, our first reaction was this was some typical Tico prank that got out of hand.

Nicaragua Wants Guanacaste

Ξ December 5th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ -My Favorites, Costa Rica, Humor, Life in Costa Rica, Travel |

Costa Rica has been disputing Nicaragua’s refusal to allow Costa Rica police patrol boats to carry weapons on the San Juan river. I guess they are fearful that our staunch Fuerza Publica will cross the river and attack their country. I am not sure 1. who would really WANT Nicaragua, and 2. if our staunch Fuerza Publica could actually pull it off as they have a tough enough time dealing with pickpockets and petty crime in San Jose. The idea of our boys in blue actually facing an army (yes, Nicaragua has one), with REAL weapons might be mildly amusing as THAT battle might last no longer than 4 minutes, which thankfully is sufficient time to call George Bush. Honeymoon… Final chapter

Ξ December 4th, 2005 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Food, Humor, Maria Luisa, Travel, Whatever |

OK… So I am a bit late writing about the last part of the ‘moon. Sue me.

After the few days we spent in DF and Taxco, it was time to again board Mexicana… also known as Mexi-arrogante… for the short flight to Cancun. As you might glean from my comment, Mexicana is not my favorite airline and in fact are probably toward the bottom… not bad considering this was the first time I have flown the airline. They work quick to impress!

Dog Eats Nica

Ξ December 1st, 2005 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Ewwwwww!, Humor, Whatever |

Things are heating up between Costa Rica and Nicaragua over the incident the other night whereby two Rottweiler guard dogs were losed against a Nicaraguan who was alledgedly on private property with mal intent. There may be some basis in this as it was

  1. The middle of the night
  2. Everything was closed and locked for the night
  3. The gentleman in question was well-known to our elite fuerza publica as a bad person not respectful of the law.

Taxco! Oh, and remind me to never get married again

Ξ November 23rd, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Whatever |

Sheesh… It appears I simply cannot take any time away from my business. Since returning from the honeymoon, it has been 14 hour days and I never get a chance to write in my blog. I did have time though to add some of the photos from our trip to Taxco, Mexico and you can see them in the gallery here or just browse the gallery here. There are also a couple of Cancun photos… more coming.

Pointy Shoes – Rant Alert

Ξ November 2nd, 2005 | → 5 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Humor, Rants, Whatever |

Costa Rica lags the US in women’s fashion.

Sometimes, lag is not the right word. Sometimes Costa Rica simply ignores women’s fashion in the USA. Often, this is a really good thing as the ladies of North America seem to queue up like lemmings to blindly follow whoever comes out with whatever is the dumbest, most offensive, least attractive item that a woman could possible wear. Some items I am sure, were designed to simply humiliate women because there is simply no other reason for their existence.

Sadly, the absolutely fantastic ladies of this country have lost all use of their mental facilities and are now buying (and worse… wearing) those incredible and stunningly ugly pointy toed shoes. Good Lord… am I the only one who sees this?
