Hoo are you?

A couple of nights ago, Piro started to go crazy in the back yard. This in itself is not so strange as she is a nutty animal under the best of circumstances and can always find something to go crazy about, but this was about 1 AM on a nasty, cold and rainy night and that bore some checking out. ML went to the window and announced that “something big” was in the back yard. I figured she was talking about the pool. Those of you who have spend any time on this blog know that my dear wifey is prone to…emmm… exagerate things. I decided the bed was a better option.

Something I learned today

Ξ September 28th, 2006 | → 8 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Ewwwwww!, Food, Health and Welfare, Humor, Idle Thoughts, Whatever |

Lately, my health has taken a bit of downturn. Seems that past a certain age, things begin to break. I am also becoming intimately familiar with the CAJA health care system in Costa Rica which I will expound upon soon in a future post.

New Blog Design (for now)

Ξ August 5th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Blogging stuff, Costa Rica, Geeky Stuff, Life in Costa Rica, News and Comments, Whatever |

man_at_computer.gifAs with my other blog, a fair number of people have complained that the old brown color scheme was difficult to read. Not enough contrast for older eyes I am thinking.

With that in mind, I am switching to new theme which hopefully will be easier to read. About the only thing I may want to change on this one, is moving the posting information to the bottom of each post instead of having it appear just below the title.

Anyway, feel free to comment on this new design… good or bad.

The Winds of Change?

small.jpgUnless you have been living in another dimension, you have probably heard of the “Browser War”, the Browser being the program on your PC that you use to visit web sites (like his one) and the War being the two major Players, Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Looking a my stats for this blog, The Real Costa Rica Blog, and The Real Costa Rica, I found something astonishing!

A Beginner’s Guide to Using RSS for Reading Blogs

Ξ June 24th, 2006 | → 4 Comments | ∇ Blogging stuff, Costa Rica, Geeky Stuff, Life in Costa Rica, News and Comments, RSS Feed, Tutorial, Whatever |

rss.jpgI really do not know just how many Blogs are being published about Costa Rica, but for sure, there have to be about forty or so… maybe more. Some are really, really good! Some are… well… not so good. Who reads these blogs? I guess that depends on the type of Blog. Some are of a personal nature giving readers the chance to peek inside the personal lives of the blog writer. Others are geared to current events, news, information on living in, retiring to, or general information about Costa Rica. Sadly, there are also some SPAM blogs that really say nothing. They only want you to click on one of the ads you find there.

Some Blogs add new content (articles) every day. Others maybe once or twice a week or sometimes less often. So the question is whether there is a way to keep up with the blogs you like to read without having to go to that Blog to see if there is anything new. If you have a list of maybe 8-10 of your favorites, that can be time consuming. Well there IS, and this article will teach you how to do it in almost no time, and the good news is you already have everything you need to set it up!

Pope Makes First Papal Visit To Six Flags

Ξ June 14th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Humor, News and Comments |

1-Pope-Makes-C.jpgTo me, there are not too many web sites around that are any funnier than The Onion (on a good day!). These people are just not normal and their rampant silliness was exactly what I needed after a nasty day.

Today’s story about Pope Benedict XVI’s return to Rome following his historic, three-day trip to Six Flags St. Louis is just about as funny as it gets.

Anyway, I have no idea if this link will hold forever… but do take a read. It will brighten up your day unless you’re like terminally Catholic!

A Visit to Hooters & a Review

Ξ May 28th, 2006 | → 4 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Food, Humor, Maria Luisa |

Hooters

I have never been to a Hooters Restaurant. There is no reason for this… just never did. Yesterday though, ML, friends Beverly and her husband Juan Carlos and I went to the Hooters in Escazu. Generally, I avoid the restaurants in Escazu and Santa Ana as they are just horribly overpriced, but ML wanted a salad and to see what all the fuss was about at Hooters, so off we went.

Our waitress represented the average Hooters wait person and saying that, it was clear that this chain was named Hooters for a reason. I also discovered just how easy it is for a person to regress… regardless of how well trained they are… or thought they were.

The NEW RCR & Pleasing the Wife

Ξ May 24th, 2006 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Whatever |

I have been spending a lot of time doing the rewrite of The Real Costa Rica (RCR) web site… in fact, so much time that ML came into the office last night and kidnapped me! She made me watch TV all night until bedtime. Doncha just love assertive women? Can’t blame her really as that re-design has been a major undertaking.

Since RCR went online, I have received a zillion emails and comments in the Guestbook. Most are complimentary but a few are from people who have really dug into the RCR and found errors (thankfully, precious few!), typos (a LOT) and have made suggestions on how to better the web site.

Meet Rolando!

marias_bugOK… It’s a Sunday morning, and I am lying in the bed. Maria has headed off to the kitchen to make coffee and toast. I am sorta dozing a bit, then in flies ML, all excited.

In her hand, she is holding a cloth and it appears to be moving without assistance. In fact it is wiggling!
