Something I learned today

Ξ September 28th, 2006 | → 8 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Ewwwwww!, Food, Health and Welfare, Humor, Idle Thoughts, Whatever |

Lately, my health has taken a bit of downturn. Seems that past a certain age, things begin to break. I am also becoming intimately familiar with the CAJA health care system in Costa Rica which I will expound upon soon in a future post.

In any case, I learned something very important today, and I must share it. My doctor tells me I must take Metamusil on a daily basis. Actually, he told me this last year… but I ignored him as 1. I hate those Metamusil commercials, 2. I want to do nothing to help fund them, and 3. taking Metamusil is somehow like giving in to the fact that I am getting olde… and I hate that.

I guess I actually learned three things from all this.

A. It generally is not a good idea to ignore your doctor even if you hate Metamusil or getting old. It would be easy to dispel too much info here about my internal processing plant… but I expect you catch my drift.

B. Metamusil isn’t so bad if you mix it with fresh squeezed orange juice and drink it down promptly (and quickly),

and most important…

C. Do NOT wait more than maybe 1-2 minutes before you drink it (the timing to begin after adding the Metamusil to the OJ)!!

I got busy this morning and let it sit on my desk for about 30 minutes. BIG mistake!
Metamusil, left to its own devices, chemically bonds with the OJ to become this HUGE orange booger. It is gross beyond imagination. I drank it (ate it?) as I was too damned cheap to waste the OJ or the Metamusil, but I can assure you this was a lesson learned!

I am sharing this with al of you as from the email I receive, my regular readers are quite possibly of a Metamusil age. For those of you for whom this does not apply, know this: Getting olde sucks.

Bottoms up!

    Tim-

    Mr. Outside: loofa
    Mr. Inside: Metamucil

Have been on the fiber for years and enjoying excellent health at age 50.

My idea for a Metamucil TV ad would feature metaphor; can you picture WWII footage of torpedo chambers being loaded and fired? Enough said.

Well Tim, another thing in common. But this time with me. I am not your “regular” friend but sure take natural stuff to become one. And I am not over 45 years. I take the real natural stuff that works better than anything in this world. Will share now. Simply buy a pack of flax seed LINAZA in proper Spanish and have ML grind it in the blender, keep it in one of your Metamucil jars and tell me a story. I take it with water…the best.

    Oh pobrecita Ana…. sigh.

My wifey tries to get me to take linaza about three times per week for just about ANY malady from upset stomach and hangnails, to athlete’s foot. In fact, her two cures for everything in Costa Rica are linaza and Zepol. She is like the father in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” who used Windex for everything.

I have great confidence in my wife and I believe in alternative medicines… but linaza is about as bad as I can take. She drinks it all the time but it looks (and FEELS) like a huge ball of sticky snot when you try to drink it! It is soooo gross. It is worse than the Metamusil you leave too long. At least THAT booger taste orangy!

I will just stick to my Metamusil methinks.

I also cannot believe I am discussing my regularity in a Blog and it amazes me that this subject gets so many comments. I think now I am beginning to understand why there are so many grumpy folks in the world!

    Glad you are regular! 🙂

    Tim
Have spent hours bouncing around this remarkable web site. In the morning coolness of Pensacola Florida, dreaming of warm exotic places…like costa rica came upon this topic and HAD to put my two cents in!
Sixty three going on thirty! All “plumbing” problems have been solved by enjoying a modest bowl of oat meal in the morning. Although its about the same, dont use the “quick” stuff.
Had problems before. More often than not. The simplest way of doing things are best.
I think you have a fantastic sense of humor. If you lived a bit closer to the coast I would request if you would consider baby sitting another Dreamer of exotic and warm places.
Will continue reading this great stuff!
Try the Oat Meal awhile. You will be surprised.

    This topic still draws email.

Seems the over xx crowd really feels a need to share their remedies and/or their opinions on the various over-the-counter potions.

I am aware of the power of the oat! I take BOTH and that makes me a really regular guy!

Now I see why we are bombarded by those commercials. Lotsa interest in the world’s universal problem! HA. And most folks thought it was Iraq.

    Thank for writing.

    Tim,

Linaza again. Yes. I take 2 ground tablespons a day. It is the best that has ever happened to my stomach.

But i couldn’t agree more it taste awful. I am surprised ur wife knew about it grounded????

Usually, they take it whole _left in water the day before.
