Maria got Robbed Yesterday… Again.

Ξ January 20th, 2006 | → 4 Comments | ∇ Costa Rica, Maria Luisa, Rants, Whatever |

I am SO PO’d and I am really getting tired of the street crime in San José.

Yesterday morning, my wife had a meeting at the CAJA (equivalent to the US Social Security). It was a business meeting with a bunch of big shots, so she dressed to the nines, including the new earrings I gave her last month.

So she is walking about a half a block from the CAJA building with about a thousand people nearby, and this low life, piece of crap, butt fungus sneaks up behind her and rips the earrings out of her head! She is left there with her ears bleeding and of course.. in tears. She calls me crying… I can do nothing as she says she can’t miss this meeting… ARGH!!!!

Street crime is common here and I always warn people to be very cautious about this. My wife is no tourist, yet despite being aware of street crime all her life, this is the fourth time in 2 years she has been robbed… and I am really getting tired of it.

Here is the kicker! She went into her meeting and was told by everyone there that this is the same turd who prays on women in and around the CAJA building EVERY DAY, and he has been doing it for a couple of years! The police apparently do nothing.

I am at a loss of what to do. I am tempted to run an anti-Costa Rica campaign as maybe THAT will get them to clean the streets of jerks like this. Hit ’em in the old pocketbook… I am just too angry to write more.

I am sorry to read of your wife’s misfortune. If this critter is in the same area every day doing the same thing, he cannot be that hard to find. I would say for about $20.00 you should be able to get one elbow broken, possibly $30.00 for the pair. Just a thought.

I am glad I read this. I dont think I will be going to Costa Rica. I am truly sorry for your wife’s misfortune. I was a little concern about what level of protection there would be.

I think it is just disgusting what goes on lately in Costa Rica. What a far cry of what it used to be. Its a disgrace that the government does nothing and cant. This countrys’ decline is rapidly increasing. Shame on those who try to cover it up by saying that its simply petty crime. Bullshit! until it happens to them or one of thiers! I feel far safer on the streets of Manhattan or the Bronx anyday! So sorry for your wife. This should not be happening!

I was born there. And yes, it is ridiculous that the same guys do the same robbery over and over again and nobody stops them.

When I go and visit, glasses, earrings, watch is at home. The purse even though it is a knock off I hold it so tight noone can get it.

Please note this is en downtown San Jose.
I live in Alajuela and there is not problem at all. and the shore is the best.

    Forget about San Jose, move!!!
