The Winds of Change?

Unless you have been living in another dimension, you have probably heard of the “Browser War”, the Browser being the program on your PC that you use to visit web sites (like his one) and the War being the two major Players, Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Looking a my stats for this blog, The Real Costa Rica Blog, and The Real Costa Rica, I found something astonishing!
It seems that the readers of these blogs/sites have been moving away from Internet Explorer in favor of Firefox. This in itself is not news. What is news is that, at least with MY readers, are moving away from IE at a much greater rate than I would have thought. Supposedly, IE still has about a 90% market share, but taking a peek at the chart below indicates that IE may have more problems than they thought.

While the sample size for RCR greater and thus probably a bit more accurate, it is clear that IE is really taking it in the shorts in general and deservedly so for continuing to market such a dated, poorly designed, and insecure web browser. It is also clear that it is Firefox that is eating their lunch!
I have no other reason to post this other than it’s one of those things that makes you go. “Hmmmm!”

Safari is relatively new and tests have shown that it is at lease four times faster in loading web pages than Internet Explorer and has much more built in security. I’ve been converted.

firefox is the way to go. But IE 7 beta is pretty nice too. the real question what do the Expats and Ticos use in Costa Rica.

I use Firefox too. For me it is the best.
I DL’d IE-7 (beta) to see how RCR, this blog and the RCR blog would look, and it promptly crashed my machine. YES, I am 100% sure it was IE7 – 16 hours to rebuild. Dummest thing I have done in maybe 2 years. ARGH!

For 8 years I lived with A Filipina name Maria Luisa. Her nickname was Bebing. I have no idea why. Please tell that you never call ML Bebing.
I will be down you way in February to around, and think if I want to move there. The US is getting worse and worse.
I like Havana Club rum and cuban cigars which are illegal here. I allready found the casa de hahabos in San Jose./

Hi Tim,
My wife to be and I have built a home not too far from Gulfito Alto outside of Puriscal. I’ve read almost all of your “The Real Costa Rica”, and it’s GREAT and right on….We have had a few set backs as we were building there but not living there yet. I have a friend that lives there that’s help a TON. Keep up the GREAT work and I hope we get to meet sometime in the not too distant futrue.

Firefox is far superior to Safari, I have to say. I’ve used both extensively and now Safari is collecting dust. Firefox is extensible, and very easy to extend. There’s an extension called “FasterFox” which allows you to tweak advanced caching and pipelining settings, effectively blowing Safari out of the water. Live RSS bookmarks allow me to scan headlines on the spot, the DOM inspector and Page Inspector tools are sweet. Come on, it’s hands down the best browser out there.
